Lily of the Valley
   Words: Charles w. Fry
   Tune: William S. Hays

   G                                    C              G
1. I have found a friend in Jesus, He’s everything to me,
2. He all my grief has taken, and       all my sorrows borne;
3. He will never, never leave me, nor yet forsake me here,

                                            D     D7
1. He’s the fairest of ten thousand to my   soul;
2. In temptation He’s my strong and mighty  tower;
3. While I live by faith and do His blessèd will;

       G                              C              G
1. The Lily of the Valley, in Him alone I see
2. I have all for Him forsaken, and all my idols torn
3. A wall of fire about me, I’ve nothing now to fear,

                             D        D7         G     G7
1. All I need to cleanse and make me fully whole.
2. From my heart and now He keeps me by His power.
3. From His manna He my hungry soul shall fill.

          C                             G
1. In     sorrow He’s my comfort, in    trouble He’s my stay;
2. Though all the world forsake me, and Satan tempt me sore,
3. Then sweeping up to glory to see His blessèd face,

                                          D    D7
1. He tells me every care on Him to roll.
2. Through Jesus I shall safely reach the goal.
3. Where the rivers of delight shall ever roll.

Chorus

         G                       C                  G
He’s the Lily of the Valley, the Bright and Morning Star,

                        D        D7    G
He’s the fairest of ten thousand to my soul.

   Under His Wings
   Words: William O. Cushing
   Tune: Ira D. Sankey

   G                                     D   D7
1. Under His wings I am safely abi-ding,
2. Under His wings, what a refuge in sor-row!
3. Under His wings, oh, what precious en-joy-ment!

                                             G
1. Though the night deepens and tempests are wild,
2. How the heart yearningly turns to His rest!
3. There will I hide till life’s trials are  o’er;

                            C                 G

   C             G            D          G
1. He has redeem-ed me, and I am His child.
2. There I find comfort, and there I am blessed.
3. Resting in Jesus, I’m safe ever- more.

Refrain

G                D7        G
Under His wings, under His wings,

G            C    G       D
Who from His love can sev-er?

G                  C            G
Under His wings my soul shall abide,

C       G       D  G
Safely abide forev-er.

Many of you know that one of my goals with this website is to provide finger style tabs for people who want to play the great hymns of the faith on guitar. This is extremely useful for playing offertories in church, and even accompanying people or other instruments for special music. Beyond these two reasons, playing and learning finger style on the guitar will push your skill forward and make you a better guitar player in general.

With that said, I can’t put up finger style tabs for songs until I learn and arrange those songs myself. To that end, I have made it a priority of mine to figure out how these songs are played. While I’m in that learning process, I’d like to post my progress.

Here is my latest recording that will make it into the my finger style tab creation queue:

To see the chords for this great hymn and maybe work this song out yourself go here: http://guitarhymnbook.com/2010/03/higher-ground/
